Our chopping boards are made of oak obtained from a sustainable source. The wood contains little moisture which should minimise warping, splitting and cracking. However, being a natural product it can never be guaranteed not to warp, split or crack over time so it is important for you to undertake good wood care.
To assist with your wood care we have already treated your board with several applications of food safe, white mineral oil to help stop moisture getting in. No chemicals are added to the oil, which means it does not give off a strong odour or taint food that comes into contact with it. To keep your board in its best condition it is recommended that you oil it regularly. You can never oil it too much!
Oiling wood products regularly helps improve their resistance to grease stains, soiling and moisture. This helps your oiled wooden products to remain clean and fresh and last longer too.
We would suggest that you oil it 2-3 times per week for the first few months and then at least quarterly after that. You can purchase food safe, white mineral oil from DIY stores, other shops or online. Follow the instructions on the product you purchase.
To get the maximum use from your board please ensure you:
-Wash/wipe the board with warm soapy water
-Oil the board regularly
-Store the board horizontally on a flat surface
-Do not leave food items on the board for long periods of time as moisture from the food can get into the wood and stains may develop
-Do not subject the board to significant changes in temperature, e.g. by placing it on an oven or radiator
-Do not put the board in a dishwasher or immerse it in water

There is an old saying about how to keep your wooden chopping board in the best condition:
“Oil it once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year, and then once a year for the rest of your life.”
If looked after well you should get a lifetime of use out of your wooden chopping board.
Our sign and hook boards are treated with a single coat of white mineral oil on all sides except the back to bring out the colour and grain of the wood. If you wish to use your board out doors then you can treat it with a wood preserver.
Our House Number and Name signs have already been treated with 2 coats of clear wood preserver before delivery to you.
If your wooden chopping board starts to smell of food then you can rub it with coarse salt, baking soda, lemon or vinegar, leave for a few minutes and rinse under running water.
